There was an initial requirement for all valves to be seismically assessed; working with consultants we formulated proposals for assessment by calculation of manual valves, to be followed up by shaker test of the complete assembly.
Due to the evaporator’s modular design it was critical that all valves fitted within the allocated installation space. We carried out a design study (prior to project order placement) to review various valve/actuator combinations to ensure that dimensions of assemblies would fit.
Correct actuator selection is critical to valve operation; working with valve manufacturers we were given access to manufacturing torque data to which we then applied the stringent project-specific actuator sizing criteria. Literally thousands of calculations were carried out on various types of actuators to ensure that those finally supplied would be correct for their intended application.
